![]() ![]() Notes: Knock-back by Impale will not push the target through other units, unlike Battering Ram or Mule Kick. This can be especially deadly against Slingers and if bleeding characters are moved against their will. Impaled characters will bleed for one round, taking 1 Strength damage for each tile of movement. The Spearmaster skewers an adjacent enemy unit doing normal Strength damage (with 100% chance to hit) before knocking it back with a kick to release his spear. He spends a fair amount of time by himself. Tryggvi is well known in his home town, for being the guy you hope doesn't sit next to you in the mead house, or is yelling loudly in the middle of the night or building a collection of spears far more numerous than most men would need in a lifetime. In the multi-player game, Factions, players are limited to fielding up to two Varl in their team, regardless of class no such restriction applies to the single-player game.Tryggvi is a human Hero character encountered in The Banner Saga series. Berserker* → Only available to Bolverk, one of the lead (POV) characters of the second part of The Banner Saga.Shieldbanger → Provoker, Strongarm, Shieldmaster.Warrior → Warhawk, Warleader, Warmaster. The Classes currently available for Varl units are: In the battles of The Banner Saga, Varl appear as large units occupying a 2x2 block of tiles and having much higher stats compared to human units. Some of the remaining Varl are led to safety in Arberrang by him and the Hero of Skogr. Hakon becomes the Varl king after the death of Vognir at Vedrfell and Jorundr at Einartoft. Many of the varl are killed during the invasion of the northern lands by the Dredge with their strongholds and fortresses sacked. Varl are strangely afraid of fire, supposedly because fire was involved in their 'making' process, which was apparently unpleasant.A common joke that Varl themselves acknowledge is that their race shares common attributes with the Yox: They are large, slow, stubborn and horned!.Being kendr to a varl King is the equivalent of being an heir in historic hereditary monarchies. Varl who are close-knit enough to be family refer to each other as kendr, which can be considered equivalent to the term "blood brother", but is also applied to an older varl who might be considered like a parent by a younger varl. The capital of the Varl is Grofheim, with Einartoft coming in second. In these cases, they are ruled by a king, who is typically publicly accepted (or 'elected') after displaying surpassing valor. However, they are known to gather in large cities or in armies, especially during times of War. ![]() For this reason, they are prone to develop a restlessness when living in proximity of other varl or humans. The Varl usually live in small communities, spaced from each other, or alone. ![]() The varls and humans fought against each other during the First Great War, but united against the newly emerged threat of the Dredge. Their relationship with humans has been complicated, ranging from friendship to often hostility. They warred against them during the Second Great War and allied with humans against them.
